The User interface is designed with larger fonts and colourful features enough for the older user who has visibility issue/ challenges to easily use the application. The user interface is also simple enough for the user to easily navigate and find information.
The key user goals of the application are finding the patient location, set up notifications when the patient goes out of the safe zone, estimate the time it would take to reach the patient, view patient’s history path, view latest news in the community, enable fall notice, add, and delete events on the calendar.
Background
Dementia is an age-related condition. Alzheimer's patients can frequently become lost or wander out of their homes due to memory loss. Based on the survey, it indicated that 43% of people with dementia had been lost at some point. Most lost persons were quickly found. However, 28% of them had been lost on more than five occasions and 14% had been lost for six or more hours on at least one occasion. This substantially increases the risk of involvement in dangerous situations or even death
About
This project aims to identify the user groups’ problems and enquires based on the difficulties in their life with patients such as environment, habits, and characteristics. Usability studies indicated the importance of appropriate design for older adults. The effectiveness and satisfaction of the user are the keys for them to keep using it. Based on these, solutions are found that help to improve the user experience on the freedom tracker and make it easy to use for the user groups.
